Transition time
It's very normal for children to take 1 to 3 weeks transition time, before they are completely comfortable.
The best thing you can do is have a positive attitude when talking about daycare at home and during the travel time here. It might surprise you to know, but even a ONE year old's picks up on your body language and tone of voice. If your putting off a "I feel guilty" , "I don't know if your going to be okay", or a "I'm going to miss you so much" vibe, your child will feel it and react to it.
PLEASE Keep it all positive and matter of fact. Mom and Dad's need to go to work, you need to go to daycare where you are going to have so much fun with the other kids.
Create a simple routine coming in. Start off the way you mean to go. Do not bring in food, toys and extra "stuff" that you have to take away from your child and bring back to the car. Let your child know that their things are safe in the car and they can have it when they get picked up.
Bring the child in, placing out door clothing in the daycare closet.
Record your arrive time in your note book, give your child a quick kiss or hug and tell them to have fun.
Don't worry when your child fusses a little. Most of the time by the time they get to the bottom of the stairs they are ready to play. Truth be told if someone took you out of a nice warm bed to go some place, you might put up a fuss too. Your job to help them develop a positive view about coming and my job is to create a safe, fun learning enviroment for them. They will trust and act on YOU FEEL, so let them see you happy and comfortable with the arrangements.
If your interested I can take a mini vedio, so you can see how your child is adjusting. I've always felt that if you can watch diaper changing, lunch time arrangements, and how easy your child goes down for a nap and you'll get a good idea how well they are adjusting. Just give us a week to settle down and create routine and I'll send you a glimpse into their day.
